Experiential Learning

In the New Voices experiential learning program, school age students have the opportunity to cross cultural, language and geographic boundaries by participating in photo and video programs with other students from diverse backgrounds. These cross cultural experiences serve both as a supplement to basic language and social studies classes in school as well as a form of serving the critical need for understanding and cooperation across religious, geographic and national boundaries.

Experiential learning programs pair groups of students of diverse backgrounds from both within the Playa Samara community and hosts students from the United States who partner directly with students from the Playa Samara community. Over the course of a week, or through weekly meetings during the school year, these combined student groups collaborate on creative projects while visiting sites of historic and environmental interest in the community.

Through the use of photography, video or other artistic media, students create a final display of work which reflects their shared understanding of community and global issues. Through their own unique points of view of the world, students find an outlet for their ideas, their “new voices” with friends, family and the greater community.
